Developing Environmental Awareness to Action

Managers - Level 4

A manager's main role is to organise the various roles and responsibilites to develop environmentally practices in a coherent system.

There are formal Environmental Management Standards for such systems. These include ISO 14001 series. Over 100,000 companies worldwide have acheived environmental management standards.

There is also an NVQ in Environmental Management which spells out what an environmental manager needs TO DO.

Managers are particularly responsible for organising personel and keeping check on progress through various monitoring and auditing procedures.

There is not a legal requirement - as there is with Health and Safety, to make an Environmental Policy. However we can all learn from H&S, experiences as to what managers need to do.
